Turn Facebook friends into a radio station with EQuala

As a publication that tracks the crowded digital music ecosystem, we know all too well the simple act of choosing what to use for music each day can be as daunting as it is enjoyable. Each new day brings a new set of music products and services. Luckily, many of them do something new, and ListnPlay's EQuala (iOS and Android; free) is one of these, thankfully.

We've seen apps that help you discover and listen to your friends' favorite music before, but EQuala goes an extra step with a personalized Internet radio station that is based directly on what your friends are (or have been) listening to -- and giving you control over which friends are included, and how much influence they have. This lets you weed out the duds.

Get 50 GB of Free Storage With Box.net on Any Android Device

Box.net is quite a handy service, especially for businesses. Today’s modern tech-savvy company needs all the advantages it can get. That’s where cloud computing comes in. Sign up for a Box.net account and your team can upload their documents, projects, and other assorted files in one central location that everyone can use. It’s pretty convenient for individuals, too. It’s good to have a backup of your files in case something happens to them.

That’s why we at VikiTech were so excited to hear about the recent promotion Box.net was running. (We’ve previously written about how to get 50 GB storage on your iOS Devices) Sign up for an account on an LG or Xperia phone and you can get a super extended free account. Normally free users only get up to 5 gigabytes (GB) of data free. However, sign up on an LG phone and that 5 suddenly becomes 50 free GB of storage.

That’s a pretty generous promotion. Too bad it’s only for LG phones, right? Please. This is Android and you can virtually accomplish anything you want on this platform. As usual, the good folks at XDA Developers have already figured out a way for everyone to get in on the free promotion. With a little creativity and a $1 app, you can get a free 50 GB of online storage. Provided you sign up before March 31, 2012.

How to Perform a Backup and Restore it to your Android Device

As an Android user, one of the most important things that you must regularly do is to take backups. Android OS offers the user almost unlimited freedom to play with it. If you are rooted, it opens up new opportunities for you to try new ROMs and use more powerful apps.

While you are customizing your device, something may inadvertently snap – leaving your device totally messed up. It may enter a bootloop or just may not start. Whatever the reason for this undesired behavior, your apps and data might all be lost.

Why take the risk? Do a Nandroid backup now!

What is Nandroid Backup?
Before we tell you how awesome Nandroid backup is, lets look at what it means. Nandroid backup is a complete backup of your phone. When we say complete, it means everything on your phone – your apps, data, your current ROM and even the kernel. It is like creating a full system image of your phone that can be restored later, when required.

How To Install Ubuntu on Your Android Device

If Android enjoys one real advantage over iOS, it is its open source nature. Sure, you can do some nifty tricks with jailbreaking on an iPhone, but that pales in comparison to the hacks which people have created for Android. With root access and enough determination, damn near everything is possible. We at VikiTech love tinkering with Android devices for precisely this reason. There’s a whole lot of tinkering to be done.

This hack might take the prize for most impressive, though. With root and a very large amount of storage space on the SD card, you can actually run a low-end version of Linux right there on your Android device. Seriously. This ingenious hack theoretically allows for several different versions of Linux, but we opted to go for Ubuntu. Believe it or not, it actually worked.
